Make your own seed balls for butterflies and bees
Posted by Johanna Trenkelbach on
In Seedballs the seeds are perfectly protected from birds. They wait there until it rains and the seed balls soak up water. The seeds then begin to germinate and slowly develop their strength. Later, bees and butterflies find valuable pollen and nectar in the flowers.
Seedballs are great to make with children. They are suitable for your own balcony or garden and make a nice gift for friends and family.
Ingredients for 10-12 seed balls:
- 2 tbsp seed mix for bees and butterflies
- 6 tbsp clay flour or clay soil
- 10 tbsp compost soil
- 2-4 cl water
First, put all the dry ingredients in a bowl and mix with your hands or a spoon.
Then add water as needed until an easily mouldable mass is formed. Form a ball with your hands. Halve them and form them into a roll.
Divide the two rolls into 5-6 pieces with a knife. Form small balls out of it and place them on a plate or grid.
It is best to let the balls dry in the sun in an airy place for one to two days.
Store the seed balls in a dry place until they are used.
